Women’s hair loss can be a disheartening experience, especially when women seem to be confronted with magazine ads and marketing ploys at every turn, featuring super models flaunting thick, voluminous hair.  Our Atlanta hair replacement experts understand all of the emotions that accompany hair loss and thinning hair.   Our hair restoration options are created with our clients in mind, and we strive to offer a variety of services that will give you back your confidence and restore the beauty of your hair.

Women’s hair loss can be caused by many factors including hormones, pregnancy, stress, medications, thyroid abnormalities.  When the cause is related to a factor that is temporary, such as pregnancy or stress,  your hair loss will not permanent, and your hair will usually grow back in time.    During times such as these, a few simple steps will help prevent further hair loss and will encourage healthy hair growth:

TIP #1:  Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meat (or other protein sources such as eggs or tofu) and whole grains. Avoid junk food, highly processed and chemically altered foods and drinks.  Take a high quality vitamin and mineral supplement that contains  B vitamins, folic acid and biotin.  These nutrients will help to promote healthy hair and skin. Vitamin C also has been proven to improve blood flow and circulation to the scalp which is important in delivering vital nutrients to encourage hair growth.  Zinc can stimulate hair growth because it enhances immune function, while the amino acids L-cysteine and L-methionine can improve the quality and texture of your hair.   Be cautious with Vitamin A supplements.  Large doses of vitamin A (100,000 IU or more daily) over a long period of time can actually cause hair loss.

TIP #3:  Use shampoo, conditioner, and styling products that are formulated to encourage healthy hair growth.  Our Atlanta hair replacement center offers the CiraDerm line of products which is formulated with special ingredients to encourage strong healthy hair growth and a healthy scalp environment.   You do not need to shampoo your hair every day.

TIP #4:  Air dry your hair whenever possible.  Blow-dryers, flat irons and other heat styling tools can be very damaging to hair.  If you absolutely must use a dryer, then give your hair time to partially air dry, and then use coolest and lowest setting on the dryer to finish drying your hair.

TIP #5:  Avoid pulling your hair into tight braids or pony tails.  The tension of tightly pulled hair can cause Traction Alopecia.   Traction Alopecia is most commonly seen in African American women who wear a full head of tight braids, but the condition can also result from any hairstyle such as a pony tail that is worn so tightly that it actually pulls out the hairs from the roots and causes inflammation and trauma to the hair follicles.  If you wear your hair pulled back, use a soft “scrunchy” type hair accessory, and make sure that the ponytail or braid is very loose.
TIP #6:  Also avoid using lots of  chemicals on your hair.  If you need to dye your hair, consider henna or other natural hair dyes as an alternative to chemical hair color or straightening products.
